Day 1/42: Saturday, February 15, 2020: Valparaiso; First day of Segment 3

We docked in Valparaiso this morning. Here, the guests leaving the cruise at the end of Segment 2 will be disembarking and the new guests for Segment 3 will be coming on board. Sarah stayed the past two nights in Santiago and will be escorted to the ship this afternoon.

Maria and I have no scheduled excursions while in port, however we will probably go ashore. The ship is scheduled to depart at 6:00 pm tonight.

This segment is only 15 days in duration with nine sea days. There are only three stops between Valparaiso and Papeete, Tahiti. We have a sea day after leaving Valparaiso, then Robinson Crusoe Island. Then four days at sea before spending two days at Easter Island. Then two days at sea before Adamstown, Pitcairn Island (Mutiny on the Bounty fame), followed by Mangareva, Bambier Islands. Then two more days at sea before Papeete.

Loading consumables for the next segment.

Taking on fuel. It turns out that, for some reason, we took on 300 tons too little of fuel. To get enough fuel we will not be to leave before 11:00 pm tonight.

We took the shuttle into Valparaiso and had lunch at a little cafe.

Sarah arrived around 1:00 pm and got settled in.
